Steviva Brand Product Review

If you are into all-natural products or sugar substitutes, I'm sure you have heard of Stevia extract.

A few weeks ago I received a mysterious package in the mail. Not realizing I was receiving free products to review, I opened it and was a little confused. I always use sugar substitutes and so I got a little excited when I saw that it was three types of Steviva Brand product samples. How great is that!! I received a handful of individual packets of Fructevia and a one pound package of Fructevia for cooking. I also received a container of Steviva's 100% pure Stevia Powder. That was a lot of sweetness in one package!

Here is a little about Steviva products. I was pleased to know that they are all natural and that Stevia was recently approved by the FDA. The 100% Stevia powder has no carbs, calories, artificial ingredients or fillers. Also, it is said that Fructevia does not affect your blood sugar levels like refined sugar does and that it "tastes exactly like sugar". They guarantee it does.

Here is my review of the Steviva Brand products I received.

I am a coffee drinker. I can hardly function until I have my coffee. So my first try was the Fructevia individual packets in my coffee. I'm actually a creamer only coffee drinker and sometimes I will even go black. But I wanted to give this Stevia product a try and see if it might change my coffee drinking style. The Fructevia taste was very mild to me. In fact, I put two packets in my coffee to get a satisfying level of sweetness. Each packet was equal to 2 teaspoons of Fructevia. I was expecting an artificial taste, but it didn't have one. If you have ever sweetened anything with unsweetened fruit juice only(like I have), that was sort of the flavor. Not unpleasant at all. It still didn't make me want to sweeten my coffee everyday. If you wanted to give it a try in place of your artificial sweetener, I suggest doubling up on the packets or using four teaspoons of the product.

Next, I gave the Steviva pure Stevia powder a taste. They said it is 200-300 times sweeter than sugar. Being sceptical, I opened the container and dipped in my fingertip to give it a taste. Don't do that! That is definitely the sweetest white powder I have ever tasted! Go easy on it. If you choose to use it in your coffee, do so very sparingly. Here are a couple of good reasons to give the Stevia extract a try. It gives you energy and helps digestion by stimulating your pancreas and it doesn't hurt your teeth. :D

We haven't had a cooking opportunity to try the Fructevia sent for that purpose. But, as soon as we do, I will definitely give you guys a review of how it does in cooking. The package says it is twice as sweet as sugar. I'm anxious to find out.

One last thing about the Steviva Brand company. It was nice to read that they do what they can to reduce their impact on the environment. Some of the things they do are running their fleet vehicles on alternative fuel, giving to environmental concerns and powering their manufacturing and office facilities from renewable energy sources. That is so great!

It will end on Friday, February 13th. My first giveaway at Ultimate Giveaways,that is.

It was exciting for me to host and sponsor the first giveaway. I have learned a lot in a very short time!

There will be another cool giveaway starting very soon. I'll also be changing the comment form because I don't like the Mr. Linky form I'm using now. I decided to use Prizey Fetch to list the contest winners, so I'll make it so you wont be required to leave an email address on a public comment form. There will probably be other changes along the way. I'm also currently looking for a good(great) blog designer to give the blog a super hot new look since I have the .net address already. Vintage and Wool Blend Yarns

This was a very enjoyable project. I made this scarf from a Merino wool blend yarn I had purchased and a funky shimmery orange vintage yarn given to me by my grandmother. My grandmother has sent me baskets of yarn lately. I think she was cleaning out her closets. I have some other very interesting colors that I haven't figured out what to do with just yet. I will try to remember and post some photos when I figure something out. Until then, I will just keep you in suspense. ;)

I discovered a post on MagdaleneJewels blog today. It was titled "My Favorites for the End of the Year". She displays an Etsy mini with 10 items she has chosen as end of the year favorites. My 34 inch Fall colors beaded necklace was one of the ten! What a nice surprise that was for me! Pamela Baker of MagdaleneJewels has some lovely jewelry in her Etsy shop. So, I am very honored that she chosen one of my items to be in her ten favorites. I wasn't aware of her post and just happened upon it when I was blog browsing. I absolutely love discovering new blogs. I find some of the most unexpected things. :)

So, I want to add that I'm still running the "After Christmas Sale" and everything in my shop is half off. That includes one of MagdaleneJewels's end of the year favorites, my 34 inch Fall beaded necklace.

Owl Necklace

I finally have a few photos of my newest project which includes some "upcycled" beads. In my last post I talked about this necklace and how I had taken beads from two different stretch bracelets and added them to this piece. I was pleased with the outcome. :)

The necklace is composed of mainly new pieces, except for the large beads. Those beads have a nice smooth satin finish and a randomly marbled color. The owl pendant was the inspiration for the design. I've seen so many owl items lately. I just had to make one. :)

Sorry I didn't get a good full length picture of the necklace. I really need a display for necklaces. I have looked, but I never bought one. :( That needs to go on the top of my to do list.

Going Green?

I've been debating this for a while. I know some people who shop on Etsy appreciate recycling efforts. I think most of those people are artists themselves. But...there are others who don't care for spending their money on something they feel is used or even a part of it used. I guess they feel like they aren't getting their money's worth. It is sad that people don't see the purchase as support for other's efforts to help save the earth. That should be a big motivating factor when people are deciding on a purchase.

I have recently been working on some jewelry that includes "upcycled" items. It has been so much fun watching the transformation. I just recently finished a necklace that includes bead from two different bracelets. The necklace is mainly composed of new items though. This was really an experiment for me. But it was great to be able to take two simple beaded stretch bracelets and use those beads to make this lovely necklace. I am really bad about not taking photos of my work. I hate that part. Hopefully I will be able to give you guys a preview soon though.

Just so you have an idea, the necklace is made with the upcycled resin beads from the bracelets, new glass beads, silver metal spacers and an epoxy and silver metal owl pendant. I didn't really understand the fascination with owls lately. But now they're growing on me. :)

Swarovski Round Rainbow Pendant - Glamour Collection

I hope you find this pendant as beautiful as I did. I found this at dicopebisuteria's shop on Etsy (of course) and I had to share it with you. This is so unique. I guess that is why I love it so much. It is part of her Glamour Colletion. While reading her shop profile I learned that the artists is Diana Costa from Barcelona, Spain and she is a fashion designer. She says that she loves to make jewelry and I can definitely see that love in her work.

Well, I couldn't find a three column template I liked and would look good in pink. So, I had to abandon the "going Pink" theme a little early. My apologies to my followers who liked the pink. I know I loved it! I had even thought about keeping the pink after the October Breast Cancer Awareness theme was up. Oh well. Maybe I will find another good FREE three column template one day that lets me change the background color. Guess I'm just too picky about how the layout looks. Any suggestions are very welcome. :)

Now I have to add all of the gadgets and widgets back to this blog and head on over to my other TWO blogs that are having trouble! Argh!! Things are gonna be messed up on my blogs for a while. I can tell already. :(

7 interesting (or maybe not so) and weird (because...I am) facts about me:

#1 - I eat a lot of yogurt.
#2 - I drink soy milk.

* a sick dog followed my husband and our other dogs home from a walk

No, I'm not posting about monkeys today. Actually, 3 Little Monkeys is the name of an Etsy shop belonging to one of my SEUS teammates, LilSouthernGirl, or Michelle. She has the cutest kids items. Bows, bibs and tutus, and so much more!

Michelle is the Mom of three. That is where her shop name came from. Her nickname for them, her 3 little monkeys. She loves to make kids items. Her love of making children's items came in handy when she wanted to bring in income to help her family and also be able to stay at home with her children, who have special needs. LilSouthernGirl's 3 Little Monkeys shop has been open on Etsy for about five months. And Michelle does craft fairs and flea market sales around MS. Just recently she was in Tupelo.

My most recent favorites are these cute flannel bibs. The cupcakes look yummy too. Oh, and she will also monogram it for you.

It really is a Monster!

I ordered a custom dog bed from StylinPupPillows, one of my fellow SEUS Street Team Leaders. I wanted it so our 5 doggies could get on our bed and watch TV with us. I just couldn't seem to get them to stay off our bed. So, Emma was wonderful enough to make the dog bed to my size specifications exactly. I wanted it to be about the width of a regular dog bed, but the length to go all of the way across the foot of our king size bed.

She decided it was better to ship it to me and let me stuff it since it was going to be rather large. I thought that would be great since I've had a couple bags of poly-fil lying around forever. Whew! Did I ever underestimate the size of this thing! So, this is what I had to get to stuff the bugger.

Yes, it is 10 lbs. of Poly-fil!

And this is what happened when I opened the bag.
It just kept growing!

It took me about an hour to stuff this thing.

And it is perfect!!

Except the dogs wont lay on it! They stay on the floor now... :\

Working with Yarn...and having some Crocheting Fun

Here are my latest projects. I'm making scarves. I thought since school is in and winter is coming, this would be a good time to get started.

My first two scarves are children's. They are loopy, fluffy and fun. I call them confetti scarves. The first is a combination of pinks and reds. Now I'm working on the same scarf in a larger version in traditional camouflage green. I guess it will be more like a pre-teen version.

These are the next fun colors I get to work with. I love the blues and browns together. The other is a very nice neutral. It has a sort of nutty texture. I haven't decided what I will do with these. :)

I have always loved taking pictures. Over the years, my love for photography has grown from just snapshots of family and friends to still life. I love finding new angles. So, I have listed some of my photographs in my Etsy shop, TheTopCat. I am offering them on note cards. Go by and take a look. Then come back and tell me what you think.

I also love photographing my pets. 100% of the proceeds from the "Molly" note card will go to the Shelby Humane Society. Molly was a resident there for 3 1/2 months before we adopted her. She has now been with us for 5 months. She is such a joy and a very sweet silly girl. As you will see.

Finally Finished the Doggy Blanket for Dogs for the Deaf

This wasn't the most difficult crochet pattern I have done, but it certainly was the most time consuming. The stitch on every other row was slip stitching two stitches together (slst2tog)(blah!), and therefore got me nowhere in the overall project. I love the ribbed effect that the stitches give the blanket, but I wont be using this pattern again. That's for sure.

There were some really gorgeous borders for this afghan also. I cut the pattern size down for a doggy blanket and then I figured the dogs wouldn't mind if it didn't have a pretty border. :) But, if I did the project for myself, I would have to go with the "Heartfelt Fringe" or "Serendipity Fringe". If you want the patterns for these, you'll have to buy the magazine (july/aug '08). :(

I love the colors. It reminds me of the inside of a peppermint patty. Cool, huh? Heehee... ;oP

Enough silliness for now. I'm off to work on some more stuff!

My first Treasury! It kind of came up unexpectedly. Someone was talking about the treasury getting close to 333, so I went there. Wow, and there it was. "The box". So here is my first Treasury, made on the fly. It features some items from the Etsyfriends team and I think also from EFA(I think. Don't hold me to this though. Like I said, it was made spur-of-the-moment).

Getting started on Etsy is hard work. I have been so busy lately.

I'm currently working on a crochet doggy blanket for Team efa (Etsy for Animals) along with some other projects, and working on items for my shop. The blankets made by the team members are going to Dogs for the Deaf. It is a great organization. Another team member posted a link to a video for the organization. I'm including the link because it was so touching to see what they do for these homeless dogs and the people who can benefit from a canine companion. They provide dogs not just for the deaf and hard of hearing, but for people with other disorders and disabilities as well. You will see in the video. It is worth a few minutes of your time. Trust me.

Getting started with jewelry ...

So, I've decided to try my hand at making jewelry. My first trip to the store for supplies ended me at the local Michael's craft store. I was overwhelmed by all of the beads and, well, stuff. Wow! What did I need? I had no idea. I ended up with a basket full of beads and wire and findings; though I wasn't overly pleased with any of it.

As I was getting ready to make my way to the checkout I noticed something... lovely delicate paper flowers... and buttons. These had to be the best finds for the entire trip. And I was there for a loooong time. So, I began looking through the scrapbooking section. There are so many more possibilities when you think beyond beads and charms. This is how my Vintage Button and Paper Flower brooches came to be. Also, I found the cute little blue and green felt flowers that are now earrings with vintage button centers. Scrapbooking embellishments... Hmmm... I know where I'll be heading on my next trip to Michael's.
